My journey to Spark: Zoe Myatt

This month, we’re spotlighting Zoe, Junior Designer at Spark…

Tell us a bit about who you are and what you do at Spark?

Hey, I’m Zoe! Junior Designer at Spark. Since starting my journey at Creative Spark, I’ve been working on a range of exciting projects from creating playful illustrations, developing a mascot for a new chain of Coffee shops opening in Manchester, shooting and editing social content, working on branding projects as well as print and much more.

It’s been amazing to work on such a variety of projects right off the bat and be able to incorporate a range of skills and processes.

I have a passion for bold, honest and joyful design and a soft spot for illustration.

What’s the best thing about working in the agency/creative industry space?

I think one of the best things is the people and projects you work on and with. I love working with like-minded, creative and passionate individuals. It’s so inspiring to see the work they do and be in a position to constantly be learning and sharing new skills, ideas and ways of working. Also, where else can you be paid to doodle on your iPad for days at a time, creating cool illustrations for local flower shops? Being in an agency allows you to pull from all your skills and interests. I am very grateful to be able to create meaningful work whilst being supported by a talented team of lovely people.

Tell us a bit about your journey before Spark

I originally went to University to do Illustration and completed my first year. It was only when I went to do a placement week at a local design agency that I realised that what I actually wanted to do was graphic design. I went back to University and changed course. I love illustration, and that year taught me a lot that I still think impacts my work as a designer today. After University, I got a job as a digital designer at a social-first creative agency for two years, then left and went travelling around Japan for a month with my sister, and now I’m here! And that’s the story so far. I’m excited for what I can learn and discover next.

What was the biggest thing you learned from it?

Follow your gut, believe in your path and make sure you work with nice people.

Do you have a party trick/fun fact about yourself?

I have been to the summit of Japan’s largest active volcano!
